Bill Furniss: Coach of 2008 double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington
The former coach of Rebecca Adlington - Bill Furniss - was unveiled as head coach of British Swimming on Monday afternoon.
Furniss, who has been a regular member of the GB coaching staff for 25 years, was named as head coach alongside newly appointed national performance director Chris Spice.
Spice, a former performance director for England RFU, Great Britain and England Hockey and more recently British Basketball, will lead the World Class Swimming Programme, while Furniss' focus will be on the technical aspect.
Both appointments begin in April, and Furniss said: "I'm looking forward to working with Chris and what I know to be both world class coaches and world class athletes as we strive to deliver the podium results in Rio 2016.
"In Britain we have some of the best coaches and most talented swimmers in the world and my role will be to work with them and their programmes to achieve the small margins required to convert finalists into medallists."
And Spice added: "One of the key things that attracted me to the position is the great potential I see within swimming and based on the solid foundation in place already I believe we can build for an exciting future.
"I'm delighted to be working with Bill. He has an incredible pedigree and I'm certain this partnership will provide the perfect match of strategic leadership and technical knowledge. I feel it's a team that can take swimming to a new level and achieve fantastic things."
British Swimming was widely criticised for its Olympic campaign in which it fell short of its medal target, and as a result UK Sport slashed its funding from £25.14m to £21.4m after the London Games.
Following the poor performance last summer, previous head coach Denis Pursley quit his role, and the national performance director - Australian Michael Scott - resigned following a review that concluded he would need to live in the UK full-time in order to continue his post.
Adlington revealed she will make a "major announcement" regarding her future on Tuesday, having previously stated her decision on whether or not to continue in the sport would be linked to Furniss' movements.
