Rudman: Wants Olympic success

Britain's Shelly Rudman is determined to win a medal in Vancouver next week, admitting she won't be happy unless she repeats her silver medal from Turin four years ago.

"I am in with a shout but I have to be realistic. If I come away with a medal I will be over the moon. If I don't, I need to know I have done the best I can"
Shelly Rudman Quotes of the week

The 28-year-old is once again seen as the nation's best hope for Olympic success, as she prepares to compete in the skeleton event.

With a great performance in the previous Winter Olympics, Rudman is setting the bar high but admits competition will be much fiercer in Vancouver.

She said: "I am in with a shout but I have to be realistic. If I come away with a medal I will be over the moon. If I don't, I need to know I have done the best I can."

Rudman admits she will need to be on top from and needs to make the right decisions at the correct time.

She added: "It is quite some deficit and it may not be the right decision but I can't focus on it.

"I have got to hope I can really hit my peak form on those two days and pull two good results out of the bag."

In what is tipped to be Britain's best chance of attaining medals at the Winter Olympics, Rudman is adamant that the pressure has not affected her and is focused on winning a medal.

She adds: "I completely understand it. People say it will be a massive disappointment if you don't come back with a gold or a medal. I know that.

"I don't want to be a massive disappointment because I've had the best World Cup season.

"It's a shame I will be judged on one race after such a good season. If it was over now I'd be super-happy with the season I've had so far, but I want to do well in the next two races."
