It was a long time coming but the new £757m Wembley Stadium, with its distinctive 130m high arch - four times the size of the old Wembley towers - was well worth the wait.

Every year the home of English football stages the FA, League Cup and play-off finals, as well as the national side's competitive and friendly home games.

In May 2011 it hosted the Uefa Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United and Europe's governing body were so impressed they chose it for the 2013 final as well.

Wembley is also a major live music venue, with AC/DC, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Take That, Metallica and Madonna among the artists who have performed there.

In July 2007 Wembley staged the Princess Diana and Live Earth concerts, which were broadcast to hundreds of millions around the world.

During the 2012 Games Wembley will host the finals of the men's and women's football competitions.

It will be one of six Olympic football venues, the others being the Millennium Stadium, Hampden Park, Old Trafford, St James' Park and Coventry's Ricoh Arena.
