In the heart of the Royal Docks, ExCel covers 65,000 square metres and boasts "the largest column-free hall in Europe".

It is mainly used for big trade exhibitions and conferences but is also home to the annual London Triathlon.

The Prizefighter heavyweight tournament is among the major boxing events that have been staged there.

The plan for 2012 is to create five separate arenas, each holding between 6,000 and 10,000 spectators.

They will host a total of 143 sessions during the Games, making it one of the busiest of all the Olympic venues.

Test events: Boxing and Table Tennis - November 24, 2011; Fencing - November 26, 2011; Judo, Taekwondo, Goalball - December 3, 2011; weightlifting, wrestling - December 10, 2011
