Charlotte Dujardin: Her year could reach a spectacular crescendo at the London International Horse Show

British dressage star Charlotte Dujardin's outstanding year could reach a spectacular crescendo at the London International Horse Show on Tuesday night.

Aboard her excellent London 2012 horse Valegro, the double Olympic champion duo are red-hot favourites to win the Reem Acra FEI World Cup freestyle class at Olympia.

Dujardin along with 14 other qualifiers will contest the World Cup freestyle to music class in front of a capacity crowd on Tuesday.

"Obviously, I am absolutely delighted."

Her routine will be a repeat of the London 2012 display that featured Land of Hope and Glory, combined with Big Ben chimes.

There must also be a distinct possibility that if they successfully defend their title, it may well be achieved in world record fashion.

On Monday night, the 27-year-old British star guided Valegro to an emphatic grand prix victory with their Alscore of 84.447% breaking the previous world best (84.08%) set by Dutch star Edward Gal and black stallion Totilas at the 2009 European Championships in Windsor.

It means that she now holds world records in two of dressage's three top-flight disciplines - grand prix and grand prix special.

This was their first competitive outing since the Olympics in the summer and once again they proved a class apart, despite Dujardin having been treated by a doctor for suspected bronchitis on Monday morning.

Delight

She said: "The horse is amazing, I am just so lucky to have him. I am so overwhelmed.

"I had the worst headache earlier in the day. I rode a bit safer than I would normally.

"Obviously, I am absolutely delighted. He had a good holiday after London, and he has come back stronger. He couldn't have come back and done any better."

Dujardin with Valegro won individual gold at Greenwich Park during London 2012 as well as being part of Great Britain's Olympic title-winning team alongside Laura Bechtolsheimer and Carl Hester.

Hester, among those left in her wake on Monday night, added: "That was an incredible test. She just keeps notching up the percentages."

Dujardin won by a landslide margin of more than 8% from Germany's Isabell Werth (Don Johnson FRH), with Gal (Glock's Undercover) third. Hester and his Olympic horse Uthopia finished sixth.
