MURDERBALL

Fast and physical, wheelchair rugby still goes by its former name. The armoured wheelchairs which clatter each other at high speed are controlled by paraplegics in fierce competition.

OSCAR PISTORIUS v JEROME SINGLETON

While the Olympic 100 metres final had Usain Bolt against fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake, the Paralympic equivalent will feature 'The Blade Runner' Pistorius against American Singleton, the reigning world champion, in a compelling duel.

EQUESTRIAN EXCELLENCE

Lee Pearson has a 100% record from three Paralympic Games, winning nine gold medals. Three more in Greenwich and he will surpass Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson as the most successful Briton of the modern Paralympic era.

TANDEM STARS

Defending champion Anthony Kappes, who is partially sighted, is set to team up with Craig MacLean, an Olympic medallist, in the tandem sprint in what will be an awesome show of power at the Velodrome.

TRACK TUSSLE

British wheelchair racer David Weir will seek to defend his 800m and 1500m titles in a hotly-contested field which includes world record holder Marcel Hug, who, among others, will be attempting to dethrone the Londoner.

QUEEN OF THE POOL

Ellie Simmonds, who in 2008, aged 13, won double Paralympic gold, will seek further success at the Aquatics Centre to inherit the crown of Paralympic swimming's leading light from Natalie du Toit, the 10-time champion who is set to retire after London.
