Stuart Pearce: Believes his players will benefit from the Olympics experience

Team GB coach Stuart Pearce believes his players will be stronger for their Olympic experience despite seeing their medal hopes ended by South Korea.

Pearce's troops saw their Olympic dream ended after a dramatic penalty shoot-out defeat to South Korea at the Millenium Stadium.

Daniel Sturridge saw his spot-kick saved allowing Celtic's Ki Sung-Yueng to score the winning penalty and send South Korea into the semi-finals.

The game ended 1-1 after Aaron Ramsey's penalty cancelled out Ji Dongwon's opener with the Arsenal midfielder later missing another spot-kick to give Team GB the lead.

Pearce refused to blame anyone for the defeat and believes the players will benefit from the experience of playing in an international tournament.

"The individuals who have come here and contributed go back to their clubs and countries the better for it."
Stuart Pearce Quotes of the week

"Dan got the winner three days ago that got us out of the group stages and tonight he is on the end of missing a penalty," said Pearce.

Better and stronger

"But we are in this together, the important thing is that all the players have had an experience to make them better and stronger.

"Some of those experiences are scoring goals and winners, and some of those experiences are having days like today when you are disappointed because you missed a penalty.

"But experiences like that make you stronger and he will benefit from this tournament without a doubt.

"The individuals who have come here and contributed go back to their clubs and countries the better for it."
