Reigning world indoor champion Jess Ennis has told Sky Sports News HD that she is in a "good position" to defend her title in Istanbul and is upbeat about her medal prospects in this summer's London Olympics.

The 26-year-old Sheffield athlete produced a world leading time over the 60m hurdles in Birmingham on Saturday and is hoping to take her great form to Turkey.

"I'm happy with the way the winter season's gone and the training," she told Sky Sports News HD.

"I feel like I'm in a good position now, I need to maintain my performance for the next few weeks and then build on what I've done for the summer."

Britain has failed to place higher than fourth at a world indoor championships, but Ennis believes GB athletics is getting stronger, not only in time for Istanbul, but also in time for the upcoming London Games.

Amazing

"There are some great young athletes coming through," she said.

"Holly Bleasdale, who's performing amazing in the pole vault. I think we've got some real promising performances.

"I think everyone will step up their game for a home Olympics."

With Dwain Chambers included in the GB team heading to Istanbul, Ennis refused to offer her views on the sprinter, who will find out in April whether or not he will be allowed to complete in the Olympics following a previous doping ban.

"I think as an athlete you have to stay focused on performing, competing and I personally try not to get too involved in the bans and what the procedures are going to be," she added.

"I just need to focus on myself and train as hard as I can."
