Jessica Ennis may have captured the hearts of the British public during London 2012 but this week Sporting Heroes speaks to the ultimate heptathlon heroine, Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

The American won gold in the multi-event sport at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games and her score of 7,291 points set in Seoul is still a world record to this day.

Joyner-Kersee, who also won the heptathlon world championship titles in 1987 and 1993, excelled at long jump, as well. She won her second gold medal of the 1988 Games with an Olympic record jump of 7.40m - which still stands - and was a world champion in 1987 and 1991.

She also won Olympic silver (in the heptathlon in 1984) and bronze (in the long jump in 1992 and 1996).

Interviewer Gary Newbon will ask Joyner-Kersee about her remarkable career, the injury problems which prevented her from securing even more honours and her talented family, which includes her husband and former track coach Bob Kersee, her brother Olympic champion triple jumper Al Joyner and his late wife legendary sprinter Florence Griffith-Joyner.
