Tyler Hamilton: American handed back 2004 gold medal
Tyler Hamilton's victory in the 2004 Olympic road race has been erased from the record books.
Hamilton retired in 2009 after his second positive test and last year admitted to repeated doping during his career in an interview with CBS.
The International Olympic Committee, who have an eight-year statute of limitations for changing results, asked for documents from the US Anti-Doping Agency on the case and have now formally stripped the American of his Athens gold medal.
Russia's Viatcheslav Ekimov, who finished second on the day, will be upgraded to gold, American Bobby Julich moves from bronze to silver and Michael Rogers of Australia from fourth to bronze.
