London 2012

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor have quickly established themselves as the best female beach volleyball player duo of all time.

The formidable Walsh-May-Treanor partnership are hoping to claim her third successive Olympic gold in London.

Along with partner Misty May-Treanor, Walsh had one of the longest and most impressive winning streaks in professional sports after winning 89 straight matches on the AVP Tour as well as the international circuit between 2003 and 2004.

In 2007 her 20 wins (domestic and international combined) tied her with May-Treanor for the most wins in a single season.

Walsh won her first Olympic gold medal in Athens in 2004 and followed up that breakthrough triumph with a remarkable run of 50 consecutive match victories.

Walsh and May-Treanor have also captured the World Championships in 2003 (Rio de Janeiro), 2005 (Berlin) and 2007 (Gstaad).

May-Treanor's achievements have been made all the remarkable due to her fight against injuries.

For five years - two during college and three during her pro career - she suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament that nearly led her to quit volleyball.

With encouragement from her father, however, she continued playing and made a full recovery after surgery in September 2002.

May-Treanor is also the first cousin of American tennis star Taylor Dent.
