Adam Gemili is one of Team GB's most promising athletes going into the London 2012 Games, yet remarkably, his rise to prominence has happened in such a short time-frame.
The 18-year-old was initially a footballer throughout his youth - he was at Chelsea's football youth academy for eight years and then signed for Dagenham & Redbridge.
He continued to play at such a level into his late teens, yet slowly athletics began to creep in.
Last summer, he won the silver medal in the 100m at the European Junior Championships, having not really had much in terms of professional training.
It was this success that saw him make the permanent switch to athletics in January 2012.
Having been selected for the 100m and 4x100m at the Games, Gemili made another bold statement at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona in July, just a few weeks ahead of the Olympics.
The rising star clocked a time of 10.05seconds to take the title in the final of the 100m, and in the process, made everyone take note of what he has to offer.
