Adrian Peterson insists he wants to stay with Minnesota Vikings despite his failure to attend team workouts.
The 30-year-old running back was absent from the second day of organised team activities on Wednesday, prompting fresh speculation that he could be considering a trade - or even retirement.
Peterson has previously said he was "uneasy" about returning to the Vikings after spending most of the 2014 season on the commissioner's exempt list while facing a misdemeanour charge of assaulting his son.
But the All-Pro back, who pleaded no contest to the charges, has released a statement which suggests that he wants to continue playing for Minnesota.
It read: "The reason I'm not attending OTAs has nothing to do with wanting to be traded. It's about securing my future with the Vikings. It's business, not personal and I understand that firsthand. Go Vikings."
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has warned Peterson that he will not be moving to any of the team’s NFL rivals.
"He's really got two choices: He can either play for us or he cannot play,” said Zimmer. “He's not going to play for anybody else."
