Quarterback Tim Tebow is set to make a return to the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles after more than two years away.

The Eagles are reportedly signing Tebow to a one-year deal, with confirmation expected to come on Monday.

Tebow last threw a touchdown pass in the NFL in 2011, when he was a part of the Denver Broncos franchise and led them to a play-off victory after a superb second half of the season.

But his career has been on a downward spiral since then as he had a dreadful season with the New York Jets in 2012 and failed to make the New England Patriots roster in training camp the following year.

The 27-year-old, who was a sensation in college football with the Florida Gators, worked as a television analyst last season but, according to a Boston Globe report, continued to work on his game with Tom House, who is Tom Brady's personal coach.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said earlier this month he had 'always been a fan' of Tebow's and his running style of play would fit in well with Kelly's, if he is given a chance to move up their QB depth chart.

Kelly said last month: "We bring in a lot of players for private workouts, it's just he's the one that everyone keeps talking about.

"We brought in Terrelle Pryor for a workout and Thad Lewis in for a workout. When players are available for you to work them out it's the same thing of going to the Veteran Combine or going to the Super Regional Combine."

The Eagles traded away last season's starter Nick Foles to the St Louis Rams, receiving Sam Bradford in exchange, but Bradford is still rehabbing a serious knee injury.

Veteran Mark Sanchez ended the year as their signal-caller and the Eagles also have Matt Barkley and GJ Kinne on their roster.
