The Indianapolis Colts have signed former Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, according to the player himself.

“It’s official. I’m a Colt,” he wrote on his Twitter feed.

Johnson, whose deal with the Colts is reported to be worth £14m over three years, will be another addition to the already-impressive offense in Indianapolis – although the team did cut legendary wide receiver Reggie Wayne.

The 33-year-old, who is considered one of the NFL’s top wide receivers in this year’s free agency class, was released by the Texans after an increasingly fractious relationship with the team, in which he asked to be traded or released after seeing falling numbers because of the emergence of D’Andre Hopkins.

Johnson has spent 12 seasons with the Texans and has notched over 13,000 yards receiving, including seven seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving and 64 touchdowns. He also averaged 13.4 yards per catch.

Meanwhile, former San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Matthews has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in a deal which will see him earn around £7.7m over three years.

Matthews has played for the whole of his career with the Chargers but he notched only 330 yards and three touchdowns in 2014 when he only played six games due to knee and ankle injuries.

The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout his career in California, putting up just one full season with the team in 2013 when he had a career-best 1,255 yards and six touchdowns.
