The Denver Broncos have confirmed Gary Kubiak as their new head coach on a four-year deal.

Kubiak, who spent seven years as coach of the Texans between 2006 and 2013, replaces John Fox in Colorado after he was fired following the 24-13 playoff defeat to the Indianapolis Colts last week.

Kubiak has a long relationship with Broncos general manager John Elway as they entered the NFL together in 1983, with Kubiak spending nine seasons as Elway's backup quarterback at the franchise.

Gary knows what it will take to deliver another world championship to Broncos fans.

He then spent 11 more as Denver's offensive coordinator, including the final four years of Elway's Hall of Fame career. He spent the past season as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator.

Elway said in a statement: "Gary Kubiak has established a track record of leadership, success and high character during his 30 seasons in the NFL.

"While there is no question he is a Bronco, what Gary has learned from his other opportunities around the league - especially in his eight seasons as a head coach - will tremendously benefit our organization.

"Having coached on three Super Bowl champions and 11 play-off teams, Gary knows what it will take to deliver another world championship to Broncos fans. Coach Kubiak is all about winning and doing things the right way, which are values that have always been most important to the Broncos and owner Pat Bowlen."

The move leaves the Atlanta Falcons as the only team without a head coach.
