The Denver Broncos sealed the AFC West crown and booked their play-off berth with a 22-10 win over the Chargers in San Diego.

Connor Barth booted five field goals for the Broncos on a day when Peyton Manning struggled with illness and injury but still managed to extend another one of his NFL records.

Manning, who was unwell in the run-up to the game, managed to lead a number of Broncos drives into the red zone in the first-half, but all they could manage was field goals.

Barth was successful from 19, 26 and 19 yards to build a 9-0 lead before Nick Novak got the Chargers on the scoreboard just before half-time - he earlier missed just his second kick of the year after the Broncos got a hand on his 46-yard effort.

Manning ended the half in the locker room being treated for a thigh injury, with Brock Osweiler coming in for their final drive, but he was able to start the second-half after treatment, albeit limping at times.

Denver remained 9-3 in front until just before the end of the third quarter when a better drive leading to their only touchdown of the game, Manning finding Demaryius Thomas, who went 28 yards for the score.

The Chargers responded early in the fourth when Philip Rivers found favourite target Antonio Gates for a five-yard touchdown - that was their 70th TD, an NFL record for a quarterback-tight end connection.

Novak hit the post with a 38-yarder and Barth killed the game off with two field goals inside a minute deep into the fourth quarter, the second coming soon after Rivers was intercepted by Aqib Talib.

San Diego tried to get back into the game and drove inside the 10 yard line, but Rivers was picked off in the endzone by Rahim Moore to end their hopes.

Manning ended up going 14-of-20 for 233 yards and a touchdown, in doing so passing the 4,000 yards passing mark for the 14th time - that is now six better than any other quarterback in history.

The Detroit Lions did their hopes of a play-off berth no harm with a 16-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings, drawing level with the Green Bay Packers on 10-4 after their rivals lost in Buffalo earlier on Sunday.

They trailed 14-0 to touchdowns by Matt Asiata and Greg Jennings, but Matthew Stafford found Golden Tate in the endzone and Matt Prater booted three field goals to see them home.

Reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle are on the verge of the playoffs after a 17-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers, who post-season hopes are over.

The 49ers led for a long spell after Frank Gore's rushing touchdown but Marshawn Lynch replied for the Seahawks and rookie receiver Paul Richardson scored the vital touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

The battle of the 2-11 teams was won by the New York Jets, who came away from Nashville with a 16-11 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Geno Smith's touchdown pass to John Conner put the Jets in front and Chris Ivory's one-yard dash sealed victory after Ryan Succop's third field goal had restored Tennessee's lead going into the final quarter.
