Is Beckham Jr's famous catch the best of all time?

Describing his show-stopping moment last season, Beckham said: "Your eyes following the ball and you try and find it at the last minute.

"Usually one-hand catches are reactive – you’re reacting to the ball. You feel as if that’s the only thing you can do, a fast-twitch reaction by putting one hand up.

"I was trying to fight off the defender and it was a last-man thing I was just jumped for it."

Friedel, a fellow American more accustomed to catching soccer balls, said: "I’m impressed when these guys catch anything, especially when they run across the middle with guys coming to smash you.

"I don’t think people understand how big the guys are that play NFL."
