Pat Shanahan has set Maid Of The Glens another big challenge by taking her to Deauville on Tuesday to run against French Guineas and Oaks winner Avenir Certain.

The Kilkenny trainer is not frightened of taking a risk, as his filly finished a decent sixth behind Bracelet on her most recent start in the Irish Oaks, having lost her maiden tag at Hamilton.

Avenir Certain, trained by Jean-Claude Roget, has been given a break since her most recent Classic victory at Chantilly and does not have to carry a penalty in the Group Two Shadwell Prix de la Nonette.

Shanahan said: "It looks a strong race but she ran very well in the Irish Oaks for a filly rated 79.

"She's fresh and well, and I'm very happy with her. Anything between a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half suits her, and hopefully she can run a good race."

Also in the line-up is the Aga Khan's Vazira, who lost her own unbeaten record when fourth in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot, and Roger Charlton's Be My Gal.

There is further British interest in the shape of Madame Chiang, David Simcock's Musidora winner who has been absent since finishing 10th in the Oaks.

The Nonette is traditionally a prep-race for the Prix Vermeille and the Prix de l'Opera back at Longchamp in the autumn.

Be My Gal has appeared twice in France this season and her trainer told www.rogercharlton.com: "The ground in Deauville has been fairly heavy recently but having won the Prix de Psyche Group Three over course and distance recently on fast ground she might be better suited to slower ground."
