Euro Charline won the Beverly D
Euro Charline landed a large purse for connections when running out a convincing winner of the Beverly D Stakes at Arlington in Chicago.
The filly, owned by American-based Team Valor, was making her last start for trainer Marco Botti before starting a new career in the States and victory in the Grade One contest earned her an automatic starting berth at the Breeders' Cup.
It was the first graded or group victory for the three-year-old daughter of Myboycharlie who had finished a fine fifth in the 1000 Guineas - beaten just three lengths - and third in the Coronation Stakes, before winning a Listed race at Ascot last time out.
Challenging towards the centre of the track, Moore had a clear run down the straight as Euro Charline picked up well to open up a commanding advantage.
She always looked to have enough up her sleeve to hold off the late charge of favourite Stephanie's Kitten, who had to pick her way through runners, and so it proved with about three-quarters of a length separating the pair at the line.
Charlie Hills' Just The Judge was a further neck away in third under Jamie Spencer, having rallied well after looking held.
“She travelled real sweet and kicked on nicely like a good filly would,” Moore told www.paulickreport.
Having passed through the sales ring for just 800 guineas earlier in her life, the winner justified the faith shown in her by Newmarket-based Botti and Team Valor were keen to praise the successful handler in victory.
However, Euro Charline may now have run her final race for Botti, as she is reportedly set to join Todd Pletcher in the US after this victory.
"(Botti) talked me into running here. He's been bugging me a month, and I finally gave in," owner Barry Irwin told www.bloodhorse.com.
"He thought she'd get the trip, but I wasn't sure because three-year-olds normally don't do as well in this race, and this filly is nuts. What really convinced me was getting a direct flight here."
