Kool Kompany: Heading for York's big sales contest
Kool Kompany will have his next run in the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes at York next week.
Richard Hannon has kept the Middleham Park Racing Club flagbearer busy this season but he his holding his form admirably, only going down by half a length to Dick Whittington in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last Sunday.
That was his seventh run of the season but only his second defeat, with his other coming in the Coventry Stakes, his only disappointing run.
Wins in the Railway Stakes and Prix Robert Papin are already on his C.V. though, and he will certainly set the standard next week.
"The Prix Morny comes up very quickly and the Hannons have two others for that anyway so they have a few balls to juggle," said Tim Palin, the syndicate's racing manager.
"We said we'd step aside as we've had our day in the sun in the Group One and after the Morny the next Group One is months away.
"The options were Group Twos with a penalty or the sales races. There's a massive pot at York, even if he under performs there's good money all the way down to tenth.
"So he'll run in this and then the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster.
"He's just thriving and he's bounced out of his race again. With Toormore we were treading on eggshells last year, in a way were scared of him getting beat as we thought he'd done enough to be champion two-year-old.
"Kool Kompany is still holding his condition so while he's fit and well we may as well run him."
Richard Fahey, David O'Meara, Niall Hannity and Mark Howard are on the panel for a special York Ebor Meeting preview night, to be held at the racecourse on Tuesday August 19.
