What About Carlo could skip the totepool Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday in favour of a valuable handicap at Chester on Saturday.

Eve Johnson Houghton's colt has won two decent pots already this season, the Esher Cup at Sandown and one at Epsom on Derby day, sending his rating over 100.

However, due to the weight-for-age scale he is only due to carry 8st 7lb, which would effectively rule his regular partner Jimmy Fortune out of mount.

"As he's a three-year-old he's only got 8st 7lb to carry and that is proving a problem," said Johnson Houghton.

"It's something that needs looking at, surely, as it means I'm struggling for a jockey in a Group race.

"I'll have a look at it but he's also got an option in Deauville, which is looking unlikely as it's heavy ground.

"He's in the Celebration Mile but there's a £75,000 Handicap at Chester on Saturday (Stella Artois Handicap) and that might look the best option for now.

"He's a big horse and is improving with racing - I'm convinced he'll be even better next year.

"He gets very fresh at home if you don't run him so he needs a race."
