Treve: On way back to racing action
Treve enjoyed a beneficial workout for the first time on turf since her Royal Ascot disappointment when she covered a mile on the Chantilly gallops on Tuesday morning.
Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek was deeply satisfied to get last season's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner back on a grass surface as the filly continues her rehabilitation from pulled muscles sustained during the Prince of Wales's Stakes, in which she finished third, on June 18.
Head-Maarek said: "She worked this morning for the first time on the turf since she was last seen on a racetrack.
"She covered a mile in a good tempo, but it was only a light canter, nothing too serious. Even so, it was an important day for her and she looks to have enjoyed herself.
"We have had a lot of rain in Chantilly so the ground was perfect for her. The horse was pleased to get out racing as she has been waiting for a long time."
Treve will be brought along with tender handling ahead of a repeat bid for the Arc on October 5, though the signs, at least at this early stage in her recovery, are promising.
The Al Shaqab Racing-owned filly will, however, not be risked on a racecourse until Arc trials day at Longchamp on September 14.
Her primary goal before the main event has long been been the Prix Vermeille, which she easily won last autumn, although her trainer is also considering allowing Treve to take on the colts in the Prix Foy.
Head-Maarek said: "We will build her up very slowly.
"The Vermeille is still the plan, but we will look at the other race for older horses (Prix Foy), too. After that it will be the Arc, we hope.
"There is a long way to go, but we think we can get her back to how she was last year."
Treve would perhaps need to equal her destructive performance in last season's renewal if she is to become the first horse to win consecutive Arcs since Alleged in 1977-78.
Despite having splendidly won the race by five lengths last October, the four-year-old daughter of Motivator is only fourth in the betting with Sky Bet at 6/1.
