Cannock Chase is unlikely to be asked to tackle Group One company this season.

Sir Michael Stoute's Tercentenary Stakes winner has the look of a typical late-maturing type that the yard excels with having only broken his maiden in April.

He followed that up with an impressive success in the London Gold Cup at Newbury before making the step up to Group company at Ascot last week.

However, owner Saeed Suhail's racing manager Bruce Raymond thinks Stoute would prefer to wait before pitching into Group One company.

"Cannock Chase was very good," said Raymond.

"While he's progressing nicely I don't think he'll be running in a Group One this year, but next year might be his time.

"He looks a typical Sir Michael Stoute improver and he thinks as a four and five-year-old he will really come into his own.

"He won't be running on fast ground, though, Sir Michael wouldn't want to risk his long-term future at this stage.

"He managed to cope with it at Ascot but that was as fast as he'd want it I think."
