Connections of Annecdote are targeting Royal Ascot glory for a second successive season with the mare due to tackle the Duke of Cambridge Stakes next week.

Jonathan Portman's stable star took the Listed Sandringham Handicap 12 months ago and subsequently proved she could mix it in Pattern company.

She caught the eye with a flying finish to be third behind Emerald Star in the Group Three Chartwell Fillies' Stakes on her seasonal bow, but will stepping up in grade once more for the race formerly known as the Windsor Forest.

"We plan to take her back there on the Wednesday for the Duke of Cambridge," Portman told At The Races.

"It's going to be a very hot race. Every filly in the country seems to be going for it and it's a step up from a Group Three to a Group Two, so it's going to be tough.

"She seems extremely well and ran very well on her only start this season at Lingfield when a fast finishing third. She was unlucky that day and could possibly have won with a bit of luck.

"She's come out of that well and hopefully that has put her right. I think she's still on an upward curve, we're very excited about her."
