Respect the Water - England Rugby star James Haskell launches the RNLI campaign
Did you know that 150 people drown around the UK coast each year and around 80% are male? That's more than those killed in cycling accidents.
"As a rugby player, I train to be as strong as I can be, but I know from experience, that even I'm no match for the strength of the water"
James Haskell Quotes of the week
To help raise awareness around this issue the RNLI and England Rugby star James Haskell have launched the Respect the Water campaign. The campaign kicked off on Friday 9th August in Brighton, with Haskell taking on a 250kg punchbag filled with water. He lasted 7:11 minutes and he said afterwards "As a rugby player, I train to be as strong as I can be, but I know from experience, that even I'm no match for the strength of the water".
If you want to take on the punchbag yourself, it will be visiting the seafront at both Southsea (18th - 25th August) and Margate (26th - 31st August) over the coming weeks. To see people's times and photos search #RespectTheWater.
