Burton blow for Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe boss Russ Wilcox could be in the hunt for a new striker following a knee injury to Deon Burton.

The 37-year-old, who missed the weekend draw at Yeovil and Tuesday night's Capital One Cup defeat to Leicester, has had a scan on his knee which revealed damage to his medial ligament and he could miss up to eight weeks. Scunthorpe boss Russ Wilcox told the club's offiicial website: "It's a fresh injury. He's had a whack at Carlton back in pre-season and whether that's put pressure on his knee in other areas, I don't know. "All I know is that he's had his scan (on Tuesday) and there's a grade two tear in there, which is going to put him out for six to eight weeks, which is disappointing news." Wilcox said he would be speaking with chairman Peter Swann about bringing in a possible replacement. "It would be nice to get a big one in for plan B, in the last five minutes of the game, to put a big one up there. "But if we have to go with what we've got, that's not a problem. (The chairman) has not got money to throw at it. "He's backed us all the way, but if we have to go with what we've got it's not a problem. "I'll have a chat with the chairman and we'll see where we go." Burton, whose previous clubs include spells at Portsmouth, Derby and Sheffield Wednesday, joined the Iron in the summer of 2013 and has scored six goals in 36 appearances.
