Ferguson senses momentum

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson feels his side are beginning to build some momentum after a 1-0 home win against Coventry.

Full-back Kgosi Ntlhe's early strike settled a game of little goalmouth incident at London Road as two of the hottest striking properties in Sky Bet League One - Posh's Britt Assombalonga and Callum Wilson of Coventry - both drew a blank. South Africa international Nthle planted a powerful header from Danny Swanson's perfectly-placed right-wing corner past Coventry goalkeeper Joe Murphy to claim his third goal of the season and earn a second home success in the space of five days. Ferguson said: "We were outstanding for half-an-hour and it was a pity we couldn't get another goal to make things more comfortable. "Danny (Swanson) has been outstanding lately so to lose him was a big blow. "We allowed ourselves to become too deep at times when Coventry were on top and we didn't look after the ball well enough. "It is all about winning games at this stage of the season though. We haven't ground out enough results for my liking, but we managed it today against a good side. "We're not there yet in terms of the play-offs, but we have certainly put ourselves in a good position. We have to continue to build momentum and breed confidence." But Posh can count themselves fortunate to have preserved their advantage after conceding the initiative when Swanson was forced out of the action in the first half due to an ankle injury. Cyrus Christie squandered a golden chance to haul the visitor level when heading wide from a free-kick late in the first half. Christie then turned provider to release loan striker Nathan Eccleston 10 minutes after the restart, but the forward failed to open his Sky Blues account by slicing wide from 12 yards. There was another scare for Posh when Coventry top-scorer Wilson almost took advantage of a mix-up between Posh defender Ben Nugent and goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik, only for Nugent to recover in time to clear.
