There was heartbreak for Jessica Judd as she came an agonising fourth in the women's 800m final on Friday evening in Glasgow.

Kenya's Eunice Sum was the clear favourite ahead of the race and took the gold having set a punishing pace in the opening 400m. That ensured that she was able to negate the threat of a number of dangerous sprinters on the final lap.

One such athlete was Lynsey Sharp and it was her impressive sprint finish that saw her pip Uganda's Winnie Nanyondo to the silver medal. Sharp was roared over the line on home soil by a raucous Hampden Park crowd.

Judd was able to stay well in contention despite the pace of the opening lap and made her move with around 250m to go, moving past England team-mate Jenny Meadows and briefly to within striking distance of Sum.

However, with Nanyondo surging ahead of her on the final bend, she was unable to hold off an inspired Sharp on the home straight to finish fourth.

It was a fine effort from Judd and the 19-year-old will now turn her focus to the European Championships in Zurich later in August.
