AFC Wimbledon centre-back Andy Frampton is set to miss the start of the season with a broken ankle, boss Neal Ardley has confirmed.

Experienced 34-year-old Frampton sustained the injury during training at the club's pre-season training base in La Manga, Spain. X-rays have since confirmed the break and the defender could be set for up to eight weeks on the sidelines.

Ardley told the club's official website: "Andy could be out for between six and eight weeks. It was a freak training ground incident and nobody was to blame for it. We are obviously gutted and disappointed after hearing the X-ray result. We will be looking to bring someone else in."

Frampton's absence will come as a blow for the Dons- he made 33 appearances at the heart of defence last season, scoring four times, as they finished 20th.
