University of Nottingham star Panuga Riou has warmed up for the new National Badminton League (NBL) season by winning the women's singles title at the Polish International.
Riou's 11-9 11-4 11-7 victory over Turkey’s Ozge Bayrak in the final secured the finest triumph of her career to date and was the ideal boost ahead of the Nottingham's NBL opener against MK Badminton at the beginning of November.
“It means a lot to me, it's awesome to win an international tournament on the BADMINTON Europe circuit," said Riou. “This win will definitely help me with confidence ahead of my upcoming tournaments. I think it's key to be confident in order to perform well.”
Birmingham Lions star Fontaine Chapman enjoyed a strong run to the semi finals in Poland. However an all-English final wasn’t to be as England’s No 1-ranked singles player lost out 11-9 11-6 11-6 to Bayrak.
There was also a first-ever European senior circuit final appearance too for young Loughborough Sport duo Jenny Moore and Viki Williams, who were runners up in the women’s doubles event in Lubin.
