National Badminton League side Loughborough Sport have announced the signing of Swedish number one Henri Hurskainen.
Hurskainen, a London 2012 Olympian with a career high world ranking of 36, won European Championships men's singles silver two years in his native Sweden, beating Peter Gade and Viktor Axlesen en route to the final.
With title wins on the European circuit, including the 2012 Denmark International, to his name, Hurskainen brings additional big game experience to a Loughborough Sport squad already boasting the likes of Lauren Smith, Marcus Ellis, Jenny Wallwork and recent signing, Linda Zetchiri.
He becomes the second Swedish badminton international to join the NBL after doubles specialist Nico Ruponen signed for Birmingham Lions.
Loughborough Sport coach Mike Adams said “We are very happy to recruit such a high level men's singles player as Henri.
“Having recently recruited Linda Zetchiri for women's singles, we feel this makes us very competitive in all events and adds great balance to our team."
Henri will join the rest of Loughborough Sport's NBL squad ahead of the opening fixture on November 3 against Team Derby, where he could make his NBL debut against Rajiv Ouseph in a rerun of their London 2012 Olympic Games group stage match.
