Erraid Davies has told Sky Sports of her pride after winning a Commonwealth Games bronze medal.

The 13-year-old Shetland schoolgirl, Scotland's youngest ever Commonwealth competitor, finished third in the para-sport women's 100m breaststroke on Sunday night, taking five seconds off her personal best.

The SB9 category is for swimmers with joint restrictions in one leg, double below the knee amputees or swimmers with an amputation of one leg. Davies' movement is restricted by a problem with one of her hip bones.

"I've been talking to some of my friends by text message and by phone on Sunday night. They were really happy. Even though there were just seven of us in the event it has not quite sunk in yet."

New Zealand's Sophie Pascoe took gold with Australian Madeleine Scott in the silver medal position but Davies was still coming to terms with her phenomenal achievement.

Happy

She said: "I'm just really happy I just didn't expect it. When I went back to the dinner hall I got toast and nutella and an Irn Bru. The other athletes were all really happy and said 'well done'.

Her father David said: "I'd been shouting and screaming and it was just an amazing experience. I was in tears. There are just no words to describe it. Any parent who sees their child - whether they are 13 or 45 - do that is an amazing thing. Just so proud.

Mother Joyce added: "Although she's only 13, she has worked for a number of years towards this. We did expect her to do well, but she has really surpassed herself. We are so proud of her."
