Fran Halsall and Adam Peaty added two more gold medals to England's swimming tally at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Halsall raced to victory in a Games record time of 23.96 seconds in the women's 50 metres freestyle to beat Australia's Cate Campbell by just 0.04s.

Reigning 50m butterfly champion Halsall, who won silver in the freestyle event four years ago in Delhi, never doubted her ability to post such a time.

"That was the target all year. I knew I was ready to swim it which made me more nervous," she said.

"It made me feel a little bit sick before I started because I wanted to get the results which I knew I could do and perform in a big final against some amazingly talented girls.

"In the last five metres I was thinking, 'No way am I winning this, I need to get my hand on the wall'. I am really happy and quite emotional."

Peaty produced a storming last 25 metres to land the men's 100m breaststroke title, passing South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh in the closing stages to also touch in a Games record of 58.94 seconds.

The victory was England's fourth at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. Home favourite Ross Murdoch took the bronze medal.

Another English swimmer - Molly Renshaw - clinched bronze in the women's 200m breaststroke, edging out home favourite Hannah Miley, the 400m individual medley champion.

The 18-year-old Renshaw came home in 2:25.00, touching 0.40 ahead of Scottish rival Miley, who did set a new personal best time in the event.

Wales also enjoyed some success in the pool as Georgia Davies took the silver medal in the women's 100m backstroke after pushing big favourite Emily Seebohm of Australia all the way to the wall.
