Andrew Geldart: A wet Fish'O'Mania champion

Leeds angler Andrew Geldart took the honours at Fish’O’Mania XXI at Cudmore Fisheries in Staffordshire.

Geldart, 29, prevailed after hitting the front thanks to a net of over six kilos at the sixth weigh-in and he then held off the late challenge of Daniel Brydon.

“It means so much for me to win this,” said Geldart, who received a cheque of £30,000 for his efforts and celebrated by jumping into the lake.

“I’ve been in so many finals, trying to win them and to win this, it’s really, really made my year. I’ve got married this year and then this – it just couldn’t get any better to be honest.”

Norfolk-based Brydon picked up a cheque of £5,000 as runner-up and he also earned an additional £1,000 for catching the biggest fish at nearly five kilos.

He said: “I was always playing catch up to Andy. Fair play, he has done really, really well and thought of various different methods.

“It was just the first three hours really where I have struggled a little bit and have had to catch up. But well done Andy and I am dead chuffed to get second."

Final result:

1 A Geldart 19.57kg
2 D Brydon 16.32kg
3 A Power 14.58kg
