Everton 3 Liverpool 3
The 221st Merseyside derby really did have it all. Fantastic finishing, tough tackling and a mesmerising miss from Joe Allen. Romelu Lukaku helped himself to a double while Luis Suarez kept his goal tally going, but Liverpool fans are still wondering how Joe Allen missed the target with a sidefooted effort. Daniel Sturridge had the last laugh to ensure both teams banked a deserved point from a thrilling encounter.
Player of the weekend
Sergio Aguero
If you haven't got Sergio Aguero in your Premier League fantasy team, do it sharpish as the Manchester City striker is in the form of his life, having a hand in two goals and scoring twice in the 6-0 trouncing of Tottenham on Sunday. The ruthless Argentinian is already on 15 goals for the season and could smash through the 30-goal barrier if he keeps this sizzling form up.
Clanger of the weekend
Artur Boruc
Southampton travelled to London with high hopes of taking something from the clash with Arsenal - but their hopes were dashed on 22 minutes when Boruc displayed some not-so-fancy footwork in his own box, before being robbed of possession by Olivier Giroud, who slotted into an empty net. Saints never really recovered from the defensive howler, with Giroud putting the icing on the cake with a late penalty.
Save of the weekend
David Marshall
Cardiff goalkeeper Marshall may have been beaten twice in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Manchester United, but it was his stunning one-handed save, diving full stretch to his left, to keep out a glancing header from Marouane Fellaini in the second half that set the stage for the dramatic equaliser.
Controversy of the weekend
Wayne Rooney's escape
Manchester United striker Rooney kicked out at Cardiff's Jordon Mutch early in the game after a tussle for possession but escaped with a booking when it could, and maybe should, have been red. Graeme Souness was baffled by referee Neil Swarbrick's decision, while David Moyes came out in defence of the England striker.
Failure of the weekend
Hugo Lloris
Tottenham keeper Lloris set the tone for their shocking display in Manchester, steering a terrible clearance straight to Aguero and palming his resulting strike to Jesus Navas, who opened the scoring in the first minute. It was imperative Spurs kept things tight in the opening stages, and their goalkeeper ensured they got off to the worst possible start imaginable.
Miss of the weekend
Joe Allen
After 60 minutes of the Merseyside derby, Liverpool were 2-1 to the good and after a fine counter-attack, Allen was presented with a golden opportunity to put the game beyond Everton. With just Tim Howard to beat and Luis Suarez screaming for the ball to tap-in, Allen somehow sidefooted his shot wide of the upright - and Everton forged into a 3-2 lead before Sturridge got Allen out of jail.
Poor decision of the weekend
Wes Brown's dismissal
Gus Poyet was understandably miffed at referee Kevin Friend's decision to dismiss Brown for his tackle on Charlie Adam - and is expecting a phone call from referees' chief Mike Riley. Stoke were 1-0 up at the time but it seemed a harsh call on Brown, who won the ball and made no contact with Stoke midfielder Adam.
Nervous wait of the weekend
Martin Jol
Jol added Rene Meulensteen to his coaching ranks in a bid to stop Fulham's rot - but the pressure is firmly back on the Dutchman after another defeat, this time at the hands of Swansea. The Cottagers are in the relegation zone after winning just three of their first 12 league games, and Jol's future as manager is now in serious doubt.
