Sebastien Loeb: Won the season-ending Rally of Spain for the eighth time in his career on Sunday.
Nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb of France won the season-ending Rally of Spain for the eighth time in his career on Sunday.
The Citroen driver, who is planning to compete in only a handful of rallies next year as he turns his attention to the world touring car championships, finished seven seconds ahead of Finn Jari-Matti Latvala in a Ford Focus, with his Citroen teammate Mikko Hirvonen taking third.
Loeb was delighted to win after three days of rain-affected action, while he also found it hard on the mainly gravel early sections of the race in the Tarragona region of eastern Spain.
He told the official world rally championship website: "For sure I really wanted to win this rally.
"We were really struggling in the start because it was really tricky on the first day.
"On the tarmac I was able to take the lead but today was not easy because we had some strange tyre choice and Jari-Matti was pushing very hard and getting closer."
The 38-year-old always said he wanted to quit rallying at his peak. Hirvonen will become Citroen's main driver next term when the season starts in Monte Carlo on January 15th.
