England’s Christian Iddon secured his first ever pole position in wet conditions during the MCE British Superbike qualifying session at Assen, in his first race weekend with his new team Alstare Juniors.

The wildcard rider recorded a time of 1’52.261 on a wet track to earn the number one spot on the grid, with Tyco Suzuki’s John Hopkins and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Tommy Bridewell rounding up the third row.

Bridewell was the highest Showdown rider on the timing screens as it was a bit of a disaster for the current championship leader, Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne.

He crashed in Q2 and has to start from the fourth row in race one tomorrow, which will make winning on Sunday a very difficult task.

Ryuichi Kiyonari recorded a time of 1’52.778 before crashing which was good enough to earn him a t spot on the second row alongside fellow title contenders Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Dan Linfoot and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes.

The final qualifying session was extended to a total of 20 minutes, after the heavens opened right at the end of the second qualifying outing, to give riders time to practice in the rainy conditions.
