Tom Sykes heads an all-British front row for the eighth round of the World Superbike Championship at Portimao in Portugal on Sunday.

The Kawasaki rider lapped the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve circuit in a time of one minute, 42.484 seconds as he clinched superpole in Portugal for a third year in succession.

Jonathan Rea secured second place for Honda with a one minute, 42.765 seconds lap, finishing 0.281-of-a-second off the leading pace set by defending champion and current riders' championship standings leader Sykes.

Ducati rider Chaz Davies will start his bid for a first race win of the season from third place after lapping in one minute, 42.924 seconds.

Sylvain Guintoli has two superpole victories to his name this season and currently sits second behind Sykes in the riders' championship standings.

But the French Aprilia rider could only manage sixth place on the grid, just behind his compatriot Loris Baz who was the fifth fastest time in qualifying on his Kawasaki.

Italy's Marco Melandri, a double race winner two rounds ago in Malaysia, completed the second row for Aprilia, taking fourth place with a time of one minute, 43.038 seconds.
