Sylvain Guintoli claimed his second World Superbike pole position of the season, as he posted the fastest time in qualifying ahead of Sunday’s races in Malaysia.

The Frenchman, who rides an Aprilia, clocked two minutes, 03.002 seconds at Sepang to edge out current championship leader Tom Sykes.

Polesetter Guintoli will start this weekend’s races fourth in the table – 37 points off the pace.

Sykes, who heads the standings by 26 points on his Kawasaki, was just 0.106s adrift of Guintoli while Italian Ducati rider Davide Giugliano completes the front row of grid.

Another Briton, Jonathan Rea, who is currently second in the table after five of 13 meetings, could only post the 10th fastest time.

Irishman Eugene Laverty was seventh fastest while the British trio of Chaz Davies, Alex Lowes and Leon Haslam are eighth, ninth and 11th respectively on the grid.
