Marc Marquez: Topped the combined timesheets on day one in Aragon
MotoGP world championship leader Marc Marquez topped the combined timesheets on day one in Aragon.
Continuing his stunning debut season, the Repsol Honda rider was in unstoppable form in FP2 when he turned in a best lap of 1 minute 48.987 seconds.
That was 0.5s off the track record and well ahead of LCR Honda pair Stefan Bradl (0.132s behind) and Dani Pedrosa (0.267s).
Reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo, who lies second in the overall standings behind Marquez, had taken the honours in the morning's FP1 session.
But the Spaniard could not keep up with Marquez's pace in afternoon and had to settle for fourth on the day. Lorenzo, who trails Marquez by 34 points, will need to find a way to keep up with his compatriot over the weekend.
Alvaro Bautista completed the top five, despite a tumble at the end of FP2.
The top 10 was rounded out by Cal Crutchlow, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Aleix Esparagaro and Nicky Hayden.
