Ben Spies: Texan MotoGP star needs more surgery on shoulder
Ben Spies has confirmed he will need further surgery after dislocating his left shoulder in a crash at Indianapolis last weekend.
Spies was on his comeback ride after nearly six months on the sidelines with a shoulder problem when he fell during an out-lap in Saturday's practice.
The former World Superbike champion was caught out by the traction control on his Pramac Ducati, which does not engage in first gear.
Spies hoped to avoid further surgery - he was operated on towards the end of last year - but after scans in Dallas he confirmed he would have to go under the knife.
Ducati test rider Michele Pirro will take over from Spies at this weekend's Czech Grand Prix and could well be in his seat for the British Grand Prix on September 1.
