Ben Spies has undergone surgery on his injured shoulder and will not be able to get back on his Yamaha until early next year.

The MotoGP rider tore ligaments in his right shoulder in a crash during last week's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Although the American will make a full recovery he will remain in a sling for around 10 to 12 weeks.

His team are yet to make an announcement regarding who will replace him at the final round of this year's World Championship in Valencia on November 11.
