Reigning World Superbike champion Tom Sykes repeated his Donington Park double of last year to take the lead of the 2014 title race.

British rider Sykes closed out two victories at his home event to turn a four-point deficit into an advantage of 26 over Jonathan Rea, who could manage only two sixth-place finishes.

The Huddersfield-based Kawasaki rider recovered from a terrible start in the first race to edge out team-mate Loris Baz at Donington Park with fellow Briton Alex Lowes clinching third.

Race two was similarly close until Lowes and Marco Melandri had a coming together at the Melbourne Hairpin, splitting the group and producing a three-way fight to the finish between Sykes, Baz and the Aprilia of Sylvain Guintoli.

On lap 11 Sykes hit the front and within three laps had established a gap of almost half a second over his team-mate, which he had extended to almost two seconds by lap 17 of 23.

Baz had to settle for second with Guintoli joining them on the podium.
