Shane Byrne: Winning double at Brands Hatch
Shane Byrne made a superb start to his attempt to take the British Superbike crown for a record fourth time as he powered to a winning double at Brands Hatch.
The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider, who had tumbled twice earlier in the weekend, started back in the fifth row in the opening race, and was 0.172 seconds down on Chris Walker (Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki) when an oil spill halted the action.
But Byrne took the lead a couple of laps into the re-start to win comfortably.
He had a fight on his hands in the second race though, just beating Australian Josh Brookes, who was looking to avenge a crash on his Milwaukee Yamaha in the first race.
The victories gave Byrne a 50 points to 32 advantage over James Ellison, who was twice third on his Lloyds British GBmoto Kawasaki ahead of the second round at Oulton Park next month.
