Jose Maria Lopez made the perfect start to his Citroen career as he won the World Touring Car Championship season opener in Marrakech and spearheaded an impressive one-two-three finish for the manufacturer.

Citroen's Sebastien Loeb and Yvan Muller came second and third respectively with another 8.222 seconds before fourth-placed Tom Chilton of ROAL Chevrolet crossed the line.

Nine-time World Rally champion Loeb was close behind Lopez throughout the race but never attempted to overtake his team-mate with all three leading drivers happy with their place on the podium.

Fifth-placed Dusan Borkovic of Campos Chevrolet enjoyed a battle with Honda's Tiago Monteiro who came sixth..

The pair clashed on the fourth lap but it was Monteiro who came off worse, losing his position and his rear bumper in the collision.

Proteam Honda's Mehdi Bennani also sustained damage in a skirmish with Borkovic's team-mate Hugo Valente, who was shown a warning flag for his unsuccessful attempt to move into seventh.

Zengo Honda's Norbert Michelisz fell away in the closing stages and dropped back to ninth while Lada pair James Thompson and Mikhail Kozlowskiy finished 10th and 11th respectively.

Engstler BMW's Franz Engstler took 12th and his team-mate Pasquale di Sabatino was not far behind in 13th.

John Filippi of Campos SEAT and Gianni Morbidelli of Munnich Chevrolet had to settle for the bottom two spots.
