WWE Battleground: Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins brawl all over Tampa Bay Times Forum

Lunatic Fringe goes berserk on Aerialist on wild night in Florida

Dean Ambrose didn’t wrestle Seth Rollins in a sanctioned match at Battleground – but that didn’t stop him giving The Architect a beating.

The Lunatic Fringe decided to start his warfare with his former Shield comrade early on Sunday night, attacking Rollins during the Money in the Bank briefcase holder’s pre-bout interview.

That gung-ho attitude caused the scheduled dust-up to be annulled and Ambrose to be ejected from Florida’s Tampa Bay Times Forum by officials at the request of WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H.

Not that Ambrose was done…

The Cincinnati-born fighter snuck his way back into the arena later in the show, thundering Rollins into the barricade and onto the Spanish announce desk – that table is always in the wars, isn’t it? – before being removed from the venue for a second time.

Not that Ambrose was done…

More from Wwe Battleground 2014

The ex-Hound of Justice’s final act was to emerge from the boot of Rollins’ car as the Aerialist attempted to scoot home and while the driver managed to get away, it was not before another Ambrose onslaught.

Outlook

Elsewhere, Chris Jericho proved true to his word and too “dangerous” for Bray Wyatt.

The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla, wrestling on pay-per-view for the first time in a year, was brutalised by The Eater of World’s power manoeuvres in the embryonic stages of their bout.

But when Wyatt’s muscle Luke Harper and Erick Rowan – who were pipped by WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos earlier in the evening in a pulsating two-out-of-three falls encounter – interfered and were subsequently banned from ringside, the outlook changed.

Wyatt – whose strong 2014 has included victories over Daniel Bryan and John Cena – used his might to avoid being caught in The Walls of Jericho but was ultimately downed by Y2J’s Codebreaker.

The Miz reads a letter from one of his biggest supporters, Johnny Russo

The Miz, meanwhile, is the new Intercontinental Champion after his canny match management caught Dolph Ziggler off guard.

The Awesome One was twice knocked to the floor during the 19-man Battle Royal on Sunday night – Rob Van Dam, the 20th entrant, was removed on medical grounds – but because he went under the ropes and not over them he was spared elimination.

And after Ziggler had knocked United States Champion Sheamus to the mat and believed he had pinched the Intercontinental Title, The Miz scuttled into the squared circle, vanquished The Show-Off and secured the gold.

Plus, Rusev won his hard-hitting brawl with Jack Swagger after The Real American collided with the ring post and failed to make the referee’s 10-count, while AJ Lee retained the Divas Championship by conquering British star Paige with the Shining Wizard.

And, on the Battleground pre-show, there were wins for Cameron and Adam Rose, with the grapplers making light work of Naomi and Fandango respectively in The Sunshine State.
