Marcus Stroman: Allowed just one run over the first six innings
Pitcher Marcus Stroman impressed on his first big league start to inspire the Toronto Blue Jays to a crushing 12-2 win over the Kansas City Royals.
Stroman allowed just one run over the first six innings, while opposite number Aaron Brooks fared less well, exiting after two-thirds of an inning.
The Royals conceded seven in the opening inning and never recovered.
Anthony Rendon landed a solo homer in his four hits to lead the Washington Nationals to a 10-2 win over the Texas Rangers.
Jose Lobaton, Adam LaRoche and Scott Hairston also contributed big flies as Doug Fister limited the Rangers to two runs over six innings.
Anthony Rizzo's pair of two-run homers earned the Chicago Cubs an 8-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs enjoyed a five-run sixth inning, while Jason Hammel threw seven scoreless.
The New York Mets went to 14 innings before sealing a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies thanks to an RBI single by David Wright, Hanley Ramirez homered twice as the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-2.
The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 3-1, the San Diego Padres were 4-2 winners over the Chicago White Sox and the St Louis Cardinals saw off the San Francisco Giants 2-0.
The Cleveland Indians edged a 7-6 success over the Colorado Rockies, the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 9-5 and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Houston Astros 4-1.
Elsewhere, the Boston Red Sox were 7-1 winners over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Oakland Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 11-3, the Cincinnati Reds sealed a 5-0 success over the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Detroit Tigers 3-2.
