England Hockey's Tom Carson and Simon Mantell believe a medal is a real possibility
The England men's hockey team are confident as they begin their World Cup finals campaign in a tough group this weekend in The Netherlands.
They face Spain in their first match on Saturday, followed by games against India, Malaysia, Australia and Belgium, all covered live on Sky Sports.
Forward Tom Carson told Sky Sports News on Monday: "The whole group stage, the way it's set up, that the top two in the group go through to the semi-finals, it's so tight in that group stage.
"We've got a great chance but it'll be tough."
England have had mixed results in warm-up games, including two defeats to Australia, who are among the favourites, but the men's squad believe they can make their mark in The Hague.
Simon Mantell, also a forward, said: "Australia are a good side - they're ranked higher than us but we're going in positively.
"We are confident we can take it to them and beat them."
The England women's team will also be competing in the World Cup in The Hague, with their first game on Sunday, against the USA.
That is followed by group matches against China, South Africa, Argentina and Germany.
All England's games, plus the finals, will be shown live on Sky Sports.
