Holly Bleasdale: Won the British Indoor pole vault title and secured a world lead to boot

Holly Bleasdale won the British Indoor Pole Vault title with a world-leading vault in Sheffield on Saturday.

The Sky Academy Sports Scholar required just one attempt to take the crown after sitting out the early heights, only entering when the bar reached 4.46m.

However, as no other athlete reached that height Bleasdale only needed one clearance for victory and she made no mistake.

The bar was then raised to 4.60m and again Bleasdale cleared the bar with ease before requesting it be raised to a world-leading 4.73m.

Roared on by the crowd Bleasdale, who was already joint world leader, took that title for herself once more requiring just a solitary attempt to clear the distance.

With a world lead secured, the Cardiff-based athlete then appeared to have extended her lead and claimed a stadium record of 4.81m but despite staying up the bar was adjusted to have slipped onto the safety pegs.

Bleasdale though was pleased with her win and believed that she could have jumped a personal best given the form she is in.

"I was so happy with 4.73m. I feel like I'm in great shape and felt like I could have jumped 4.90m today," said Bleasdale.

"It's the first time in a couple of years that I've really started to enjoy my pole vault. I've got a great coach and I have an amazing training group - we all spur each other on and I'm just in the best place ever now."

Next up for Bleasdale is the Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham next weekend.
